Canada expressed serious concern this Thursday over political maneuvering in Haiti, just days ahead of the February 7 deadline marking the end of the Transitional Presidential Council’s (TPC) mandate.
In a firm statement, Ottawa opposed any attempt to remove Prime Minister Alix Didier Fils-Aimé and instead urged TPC members to honor their commitment to step down on the agreed date.
This public stance follows a similar warning from the United States, increasing international pressure on the transitional authorities.
Ottawa warned against any “destabilizing” actions that could undermine security and stability and threatened to take measures against those involved.
Canada reaffirmed its support for the Haitian people’s right to choose their leaders through democratic elections, calling for a peaceful transition that respects the established timeline.
