Attempt to Oust the CPT Coordinator Thwarted

January 14, 2026

A discreet initiative aimed at replacing Laurent Saint-Cyr as coordinator of the Transitional Presidential Council (TPC) was expected to materialize on January 7, 2026, according to several internal sources consulted by Le Nouvelliste. Five council members had initially agreed on the idea, invoking strict adherence to the planned rotation at the head of the Council.

In less than twenty-four hours, the balance of power shifted and the project was abandoned. The same council members reversed course, confirming the continuation of Laurent Saint-Cyr until the scheduled end of his term on February 7, 2026.

This aborted maneuver did not go unnoticed by certain foreign chanceries, which quickly reached out directly to the TPC. Phone exchanges between diplomats and Council members confirmed the existence of internal tensions, without however leading to a formal rupture.

In the background, persistent criticism of Laurent Saint-Cyr’s governance continues to fuel tensions. He is reproached for his management of the Council of Ministers and for concentrating decision-making, in a climate already poisoned by his conflictual relations with former coordinator Fritz Alphonse Jean.

As the February 7 deadline approaches, the TPC is simultaneously multiplying discussions with major political blocs and institutional actors. No exit scenario has reached consensus at this stage, whether partial maintenance of the current Council, recomposition of the executive, or transition to another power structure.
