On Monday, February 17, 2025, the Haitian National Police (HNP), through the Central Departmental Directorate, arrested six individuals for fraud. The suspects were identified as Dorvil Jackson (27), Merilan Jephte (23), Luvenson Orelien (22), Frantz Catilus (22), Saintil Renald (22), and Louis Ricardo (19). These individuals posed as Vodou priests, extorting large sums of money from members of the Haitian diaspora. They are currently being held in police custody.
This operation takes place amid Haiti’s deteriorating security situation, where the proliferation of armed gangs and political instability make the work of the HNP and the Multinational Security Support (MSS) mission particularly challenging. Despite ongoing efforts, concrete results have been slow to materialize, and the population continues to live in constant fear of criminal activities.
The HNP urges the public to remain vigilant and cooperate with law enforcement by reporting any suspicious activity. Authorities reaffirm their commitment to dismantling criminal networks and restoring peace in affected communities.
