Arrest of Gamal Augustin: Former State Television Director in Legal Turmoil

September 24, 2025

The former Director General of the National Television of Haiti (NTH), Gamal Augustin, was taken into custody on Tuesday, September 23, following a hearing conducted by the Anti-Corruption Unit (ULCC in French). Investigators suspect him of embezzlement of public property, abuse of office, and other irregularities committed during his tenure at the institution.

At the end of his hearing, he was brought before the Port-au-Prince prosecutor’s office for further legal action. According to the ULCC, damning evidence points to management marked by serious failures in the use of public resources.

This arrest comes as civil society pressure mounts for genuine accountability within Haiti’s public administration. Several organizations are calling on the justice system to act without political interference, in order to send a clear signal against impunity.
