Arrest in the Dominican Republic: Rosemila Petit-Frère Released but Case Remains Murky

August 13, 2025

Detained on Sunday, August 10, at Punta Cana International Airport, Rosemila Petit-Frère, former mayor of Arcahaie, was briefly held by Dominican immigration authorities. According to her statements, she was released this morning and plans to return to Haiti via the Dajabón border.

Dominican authorities have not provided any official details on the reasons for her arrest, while the press reports the discovery of a large sum of money whose origin has not been specified. The matter is all the more sensitive given that she is mentioned in a 2024 UCREF report citing suspicions of corruption and illicit enrichment.

Some observers also point out that this arrest comes shortly after the reactivation of several investigations in Haiti, including one linking her to figures in organized crime. In the absence of clear information, the exact circumstances of her detention and release remain uncertain at this stage.
