Five days after Haiti’s elimination from the 2026 World Cup, Prime Minister Alix Didier Fils-Aimé addressed a heartfelt message of recognition to the Grenadiers in a video released Sunday. The head of government saluted a generation of players who, in his view, allowed the Haitian people to reconnect with a long-awaited pride on the international stage.
“There are moments that never fade from a people’s memory, and what the Grenadiers made us experience at the 2026 World Cup is one of them,” the Prime Minister declared. Recalling that Haitians had waited 52 years for such an occasion, he affirmed that the national team had restored to an entire country “the pride of seeing its flag flying on the world stage” and thanked the players, the technical staff, and the Haitian Football Federation for their commitment.
Alix Didier Fils-Aimé also emphasized the symbolic significance of this campaign, stating that the Grenadiers had demonstrated to the world “that Haiti is a strong, courageous people that never gives up.” He added that this team had offered hope to younger generations by proving to them that “nothing is impossible when there is unity, faith, and determination.”
The Prime Minister also expressed his gratitude to the Haitian diaspora, whom he thanked for their constant support in the stadiums throughout the competition. Concluding his remarks with a call for unity, he declared: “Let us come together to prepare the future of our country,” before reaffirming a message of togetherness: “Haiti is us. We are Haiti.”
