Gang Member Claims Missing Salvadorans Are Dead

October 29, 2026

Gang leader Lanmò San Jou, whose real name is Joseph Wilson, claimed that the four Salvadoran aviation technicians missing since October 18 in Haiti are dead. In a video released Sunday and addressed to Salvadoran President Nayib Bukele, he presented their alleged death as the result of a “mistake” committed when the men entered territory controlled by a neighboring gang.

According to his version of events, armed men opened fire after spotting an unfamiliar vehicle in their zone of control. “They took action, causing the death of the foreigners,” he declared, without providing evidence to confirm his assertions.

These statements could not be independently verified, and authorities have still not confirmed the deaths of the four Salvadorans. Their disappearance, which occurred during an ambush in Santo (Croix-des-Bouquets), led El Salvador to strengthen its military presence in Haiti as part of search and rescue operations.
