Prime Minister Alix Didier Fils-Aimé took part by videoconference on Tuesday in a UN Security Council meeting on Haiti’s security crisis. He reaffirmed his government’s “firm and unequivocal” support for the resolution to transform the MSS (Multinational Security Support) mission into a Gang Repression Force (GRF).
According to the head of government, this shift is “a decisive step to support the authority of the State, protect communities, and contribute to national and regional stability.” The strengthening of the international mandate is seen as an answer long awaited by a population exhausted by violence.
Fils-Aimé recalled that the seriousness of the situation requires “responses commensurate with the scale of the security challenges.” He stressed that the GRF would also be an essential instrument for quickly organizing democratic elections, a necessary condition for restoring institutional legitimacy.
The Haitian government, in this context, insists on the importance of international solidarity. “We reaffirm our commitment to cooperation among nations and thank the Security Council for its continued engagement,” the Prime Minister said.
Convinced of the urgency, the executive calls for swift adoption and implementation of the resolution. Haiti believes it will embody the collective will of the international community to support its people in their pursuit of security, peace, and democracy.
