Prime Minister Didier Fils-Aimé on Thursday praised the departure of a first group of 150 Haitian soldiers, including 15 women, to Mexico for a three-month military training program. He emphasized that this moment marks “a pivotal step in the revitalization of the Haitian Armed Forces.”
The official send-off ceremony, held in the presence of the President of the Transitional Presidential Council, Fritz Alphonse Jean, as well as high-ranking civil and military officials, highlighted the scope of the initiative. The cooperation program, which will eventually train 700 soldiers, is part of a broader effort to sustainably strengthen Haiti’s national defense capacity.
The Prime Minister expressed his gratitude to the Mexican authorities, represented at the event by Carlos Imanol Reyes, for their commitment to this strategic collaboration. He noted that the partnership reflects “the strength of the bilateral ties between Haiti and Mexico.”
Fils-Aimé underscored the structural importance of this mission as part of a roadmap focused on restoring security, reinforcing institutions, and organizing credible elections. He reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to confronting transnational threats, stating that the government “remains fully mobilized to restore peace and defend national sovereignty.”
Praising the unity of state institutions behind this goal, the Prime Minister described the deployment as “the expression of a confident state, a determined government, and a hopeful people.” This security reform, now underway, is based on the principles of discipline, transparency, and institutional rigor.
