Attack on Media: MJSP Condemns Assault on Democracy

March 18, 2025

The Ministry of Justice and Public Security (MJSP) strongly condemns the attack on the premises of Radio Télévision Caraïbes and Radio Mélodie FM. In a statement released on March 13, the MJSP described the act as “unacceptable,” viewing it as a direct threat to press freedom and the rule of law.

“The freedom of the press is a sacred and inalienable achievement,” the ministry emphasized, stressing the vital role journalists play in informing the public. It warned against any attempts to intimidate the media and urged the population to remain vigilant against criminal groups seeking to silence independent journalism.

In response to this concerning situation, the MJSP highlighted ongoing efforts to combat insecurity. “Thanks to the increased mobilization of law enforcement, the population is beginning to see significant progress in security,” the statement assured. The ministry reaffirmed the government’s commitment to strengthening protections for citizens and institutions.

The statement also called for active collaboration between citizens and authorities to identify and neutralize these “enemies of the Republic.” The ministry reminded the public that only a collective commitment can ensure a climate of peace and security in the country.

While condemning the attack, the MJSP renewed its commitment to defending freedom of expression and ensuring the protection of media professionals. It urged the population to remain vigilant and support law enforcement in their mission to restore national security.
