Haiti Seeks Peruvian Expertise to Organize Upcoming Elections

March 18, 2025

While touring Latin America, a Haitian delegation led by Presidential Councilor-President Frinel Joseph met with Peru’s National Office of Electoral Processes (ONPE in French) on Tuesday, March 11. The purpose of the meeting was to explore best electoral practices and discuss potential technical cooperation between the two countries.

The Transitional Presidential Council (TPC) aims to draw inspiration from Peru’s experience in organizing Haiti’s planned constitutional referendum and general elections. This initiative comes as Haiti struggles to establish a credible and inclusive electoral framework after years of political crisis.

By relying on foreign expertise, the transitional authorities hope to bolster confidence in their ability to conduct a transparent democratic process. However, it remains to be seen whether this cooperation will lead to concrete progress in an increasingly uncertain political climate.
