Before the federal court in Miami, Martine Moïse continued her testimony for a second day in the trial of four men suspected of participating in the plot that led to the assassination of Jovenel Moïse. The former First Lady notably accused former president Michel Martelly and former prime minister Ariel Henry of being involved in her husband’s death.
She stated that she had filed a complaint against Ariel Henry and claims that certain figures who are now influential in Haiti may be linked to the crime. According to her, suspicions directed at her stem from the fact that those responsible for the assassination now hold positions of power.
Jurors also heard a detailed account of the night of July 7, 2021, at the couple’s residence in Pétion‑Ville. Awakened by gunfire around 1 a.m., she first alerted her children before returning to the bedroom where the assailants burst in.
Wounded by gunfire, she said she pretended to be dead while the attackers searched the room, speaking Spanish. She stated that she saw her husband gravely injured, describing a scene that unfolded over nearly forty-five minutes.
Defense attorneys sought to highlight inconsistencies between this testimony and prior statements made to the Federal Bureau of Investigation. Despite these questions, Martine Moïse maintains her account and says she continues to seek truth and justice nearly five years after the president’s death.
