At the opening of the federal trial related to the assassination of Haitian President Jovenel Moïse, his son Joverlein Moïse issued a statement on March 9, 2026, from Miami. He noted that nearly five years after the night of the assassination, the judicial process is entering a decisive phase with the selection of the jury.
According to him, several witnesses are expected to testify for the first time before U.S. courts to present, under oath, their version of events. Five men, including American and Colombian citizens, are accused of having participated in the planning and financing of the attack from South Florida and face life imprisonment if convicted.
In his statement, Joverlein Moïse emphasized, however, that this trial represents only part of the truth surrounding the crime. He stated that some masterminds remain unidentified, uncharged, and have not been brought to justice.
For the family of the former head of state, the opening of this hearing represents both a moment of remembrance and hope. The son of the assassinated president believes that justice must continue its work so that the full truth is established and those responsible for what he describes as an attack on democracy are held accountable.
