Ouidah, Benin, January 6, 2025 — Haitian Vodou High Priest Atibon Joseph Fritzner Comas, an iconic figure in Haitian Vodou and former Ati National of Haiti (the highest rank in Haitian Vodou), proudly announces his participation in the National Vodou Festival to be held in Ouidah, Benin, from January 9 to 11, 2025.
As a special guest of His Majesty Adanyroh Agassa Guédéhoungué III, President of the National Community of Vodun Worship of Benin – Racine (CNCVB-RACINE), Grand Priest Atibon Joseph Fritzner Comas will proudly represent Haiti and the Vodou diaspora at this prestigious and traditional event. This invitation is a significant moment to celebrate the ancestral and spiritual bonds that unite Benin, the cradle of Vodou, and Haiti, the first free Black nation.
Atibon Joseph Fritzner Comas’ participation holds historical significance, reinforcing the unique familial and spiritual connection between the two peoples. In 1993, he was crowned Prince of Vodou by the late venerable Sossa Guédéhoungué, father of His Majesty Adanyroh Agassa Guédéhoungué. This recognition underscores the spiritual heritage and the continuity of relationships between the guardians of Vodou in both nations. Since the 2000s, Atibon Comas has also served as an ambassador of the CNCVB-RACINE to the diaspora.
“When I look at Adanyroh Agassa Guédéhoungué III, I see Sossa Guédéhoungué. And thanks to these two, Vodou continues to assert itself on the international stage, uniting our brothers and sisters around the world,” said Atibon Joseph Comas.
The National Vodou Festival is a major annual event that brings together spiritual leaders, practitioners, and Vodou followers from around the globe. It serves as a unique platform to celebrate, honor, share, and promote Vodou traditions while fostering intercultural dialogue and global solidarity.
